The flags, the patriotic songs, the loyal fans decked out in red, white and blue across the golf course was quite a sight to behold at Killeen Castle. Alison Nicholas called it “the best ever” and she might be right!
EWGA had a fantastic showing of support for Team USA. There were over 200 EWGA members from across the U.S. who made the trip demonstrating their passion and enthusiasm for women’s golf and support for the stars of the LPGA Tour. And we were not disappointed. Team USA made us proud. Thank you!
Our week of activities included golf at Portmarnock Golf Links, The K Club, The Island, a literary Pub Crawl in Downtown Dublin, a special evening hosted by the Meath County Business Enterprise Board at the Knightsbrook Hotel where over 400 business women networked; a fabulous evening of enjoyment at Sutton Golf Club, home of the legendary Dr. J.B. Carr; the Solheim Cup Gala Dinner with both teams present and dressed to the nines, and of course the Matches!
And what Matches they were. Going into Sunday tied, the emotion and excitement was raw. While “Europe pulled it out of the fire to become queens of the Castle”, it was superb golf all the way on both sides. And considering the weather challenges, it didn’t dampen the competitive drive on either side.
I’ve had the privilege of attending several Solheim Cups and this one was magical. It was one of the most dramatic, tense and emotional competitions ever witnessed with Europe taking a 15-13 victory over the USA and winning the Solheim Cup. I’d like to thank the Solheim Family and PING for supporting this biennial event and elevating the status of women’s golf to such a pinnacle. It takes superstars to bring an event like this to fruition and both teams delivered. This 12th Solheim Cup was truly a great showing for the women’s game!
