Show your support for Patriot Golf Day

Throughout this Labor Day Weekend, Sept. 3-6, participating public golf courses nationwide will be raising funds to support the fourth Annual Patriot Golf Day Weekend.

Participating public golf courses will be soliciting a minimum of $1 for each green fee they process. These donations will go to the Folds of Honor Foundation which provides educational scholarships to families of those who have become disabled or lost their lives in the line of duty.

Major Dan Rooney, a PGA Professional and F-16 pilot in the 125 Fighter Squadron of the Oklahoma Air National Guard, founded the Folds of Honor Foundation following his second of three tours of duty in Iraq. Since 2007, the Folds of Honor Foundation through events like the ones being held this upcoming weekend, have raised approximately $5.3 million allowing the awarding of 1,163 post-secondary educational scholarships.

Participating golf facilities can be found at www.PlayGolfAmerica.com.

90th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment

On this day, August 26, 2010, we honor the 90th year anniversary of the 19th Amendment being ratified which gave women the right to vote.

As I went to the polls earlier this week to vote in the Florida primaries, I honestly just took it for granted that this was my right, my obligation, my duty as a U.S. Citizen to make my opinion count. I wouldn’t have had this right if it were not for many fearless female leaders who fought for us to be recognized 90 years ago. I ask you to take a moment and step back and think of all the things we should be thankful for, appreciate and celebrate.
